The Personalities Behind Payoff — Meet Joy W. From Our Team Experience

I have been at Payoff since …
July 2015.

The best thing about my job is …
Being able to make people smile and contributing to the amazing culture here at Payoff. I am so happy to make people happy.

When I’m not working, I’m …
Hanging out with my sisters, researching where the best doughnuts / pancakes are in Southern California, learning how to sew and fighting crime.

My friends describe me as …
I was once told by one of my best friends, “You are everything in a moment that most people hope to experience in a day.” I’d like to think people say, “small but mighty.”

When it comes to dogs or cats, I prefer …
The kitten and puppy versions.

My favorite TV show is …
The OC has and always will have my heart. More specifically, Seth Cohen. How do you think I ended up here? [Editor’s Note: The Payoffice is in the OC.]

My favorite movie is …
That’s a tough call, but I will either have to go with About Time or Moonrise Kingdom.

My favorite book is …
The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness by Tim Keller.

My favorite food is …
I love Thai food and Ethiopian food. Thai for first. See what I did there?

My favorite vacation was to …
My semester abroad traveling all over Europe.

A website I check all the time is …
Cultured.

Most dangerous thing you’ve ever done …
Cliff jumping in the South of France.

Farthest you’ve ever traveled?
Nairobi, Kenya.

Less is more?
Certainly. Just ask Dieter Rams.

The song I never get tired of hearing is …
You Can Call Me Al” by Paul Simon. I can’t help but boogie-woogie-oogie.

When I was a kid, my dream job was …
Being a veggie on VeggieTales. Always had a special affinity toward Junior Asparagus.

If I had a superpower, it would be …
A regenerating taco arm. There has never been a time where I wasn’t in the mood for a taco. Plus it would eliminate my grocery bill.

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop?
I thought Mr. Owl did some research on that.

Magnets?
“Faith is an invisible and invincible magnet and attracts to itself whatever it fervently desires and calmly and persistently expects.” – Ralph Waldo Trine

Deep.

What’s the appeal of a road less traveled?
It’s the opposite of the 405 at 5 pm. [Editor’s Note: The 405 freeway in OC is crazy jam-packed all the time.]

If you could change your middle name, what would you change it to?
I don’t think I would. I like being named Joy Noel. It quite literally means Merry Christmas. And I think that is pretty cool.

Hey, can I borrow your phone?
Of course! Just don’t hack my Instagram. Or if you do, at least make it really funny.

What was the best date you’ve ever been on?
In college, I was taken to swing dancing at an art museum. That was pretty cool!

If we were to achieve global peace tomorrow and the whole world were celebrating, I would want to party at …
An epic dance party with all my friends somewhere beautiful like the lavender fields in France.

What matters most to me is …
My faith.

What I don’t care about at all is …
Strawberries. I actually really dislike them.

On a Saturday/Sunday, I love to …
Try a new coffee shop, go to church, adventure with my roommates, cook a nice dinner and have a glass of wine.

I really admire …
[My supervisor] Janae. Because she is a lady boss, makes the Payoff world turn and always looks cute doing it. Also, my parents. They’re the two most incredible, selfless, kind and faithful people that I know. I seriously cannot believe I get to be their daughter.

Money is …
Necessary.

Money is not …
Everything.

My money personality is …
The Storyteller.

Last week’s Payoff Personality, Bart W., asked you:
Why are manhole covers round?

*frantically googles manhole covers*

And you get to ask next week’s Payoff Personality a question. What’s your question and how would you answer it?
You’re stranded on a deserted island with three Payoff employees and the goal is to get off. What three employees do you pick?

  1. Matt W. because of his Naval Training.
  2. Patrick L. for morale and the height advantage.
  3. Dr. Dave H. because … Science.
